The Sony Ericsson Zylo: A Smartphone for Music Lovers

By: Caroline Telford

The new Sony Ericsson Zylo is a mobile phone specifically designed for audiophiles rather than web-centric users. Sony’s Walkman player is a key music entertainment feature that allows you to create personalized playlists. Shake control lets you skip tracks by shaking your phone, and Sony Ericsson’s infamous TrackID, an innovative technology that tells you the title of a song and its artist and album name by recording a few second of the song has had over 129 million look ups since its inception.

The Zylo keeps in line with Sony Ericsson’s human curvature design which sweeps across the firm’s portfolio. The stunningly beautiful human curvature incorporates an extremely ergonomic keypad which makes it one of Sony Ericsson’s most user friendly interfaces on a handset yet.

The range of Walkman phones has seen momentous success since its launch in 2005, with over 100 million handsets sold. The phone’s other entertainment features, like its YouTube support which allows users to watch video streams while on the go, seems to take a step back in the phone’s primary function. The phone also includes an FM radio with RDS and 3D game applications for an extremely entertaining handset while you are travelling. The Zylo boasts a 16 GB memory slot for all your music, comparable to similar smart phones like the Motorolla Droid.

Cameras have become standard in today’s mobile phones. The Sony Ericsson Zylo has an in-built 3.2 megapixel camera, with programs like Photo Fix to adjust the light balance and contrast of your images, geo-tagging, and the ability to access your friends’ photo blogs from one convient application.

No phone would be complete with a range of messaging features in today’s day and age. The phone offers excellent messaging technologies from email, Instant Messaging for online chatting, MMS and SMS services, and the ability to synchronize your phone with your Microsoft Exchange email server while on the go.

Sony Ericsson seems to be trying to compete with other networking themed mobile phones. The Zylo has the ability to support Twitter, the most popular microblog site, and Facebook, with the world’s largest pool of users. Besides integrating your social network, the Sony Ericsson Zylo may not be all that those of us who rely on our phone’s browsing capabilities need. The phone does have a Google Search application, it does receive feeds from blogs and news sites, and offers an easy to use full Internet browsing experience through its web browser Netfront.

The Sony Ericsson Zylo is a great choice for music lovers looking to integrate their music player, cellphone, and camera into one integrated solution. With the ability to connect to your social networks like Twitter and Facebook, the Zylo offers a complete smart package which allows you to keep in touch with everyone and keep your music with you travelling and going about your daily life.
